Feel all the greatness of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in one day! From Vienna to Bratislava and Budapest. In one day you will be able to feel the atmosphere of three capitals of different countries: Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia. Can you imagine that it used to be one state? That's what our trip will be about! Vienna is the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At the beginning of our journey, I will tell the story of Vienna and how the Empire was born. Bratislava is a cozy medieval city with a unique Slovak flavor. This city was the coronation place of the Hungarian Kingdom. We'll stop in the city center for coffee and a traditional Slovak dessert. Budapest is a majestic city with amazing buildings built during the heyday of the capital of Hungary. Once called the “Queen of the Danube,” Budapest consists of two parts, Buda and Pest. Our car-walking tour will affect both parts of this city. In Budapest, I will show a few Hungarian restaurants with local cuisine.

About Gasthaus Pöschl

Dishes like creamy Chantelle mushroom soup balance richness with earthy mushroom flavor without overwhelming creaminess. Try the calf’s liver or fried chicken paired with fresh lettuces. The apple strudel topped with seasonal strawberries and rhubarb adds a sweet finish in a casual setting where reservations are recommended but walk-ins after 9 p.m. can be accommodated.

This was a recommendation from a friend, and man was it spot on. We called ahead a few days ago for a reservation and they had a wonderful table ready for us when we arrived. We really liked the neighborhood tavern atmosphere. We went for it - four appetizers and four mains. All the appetizers were awesome. The arugula/avocado salad was spot on, and we couldn't put our finger on the dressing, but it may have been the best salad we've had in a long time. The salmon trout tartar was super fresh and heavenly with the dill cream. The Chanterelles cream soup was just the right amount of mushroom-y. Finally, the clear beef soup broth was very simple, but very good. Two of us had the veal Wiener Schnitzel and two of us had the Tafelspitz (a beef/vegetable soup, apparently a very Vienna thing to order). The schnitzel was accompanied by a potato salad that seemed to have a cider vinegar base - I didn't want to like it but couldn't stop stealing bites from my wife. The schnitzel was tender and tasty. I wasn't sure what to expect with the Tafelspitz, but beef was super tender and the leeks, carrots, parsnips and other add-ins were a great touch. The applesauce with horseradish and the sour cream & chive sauces brought a whole new profile to each bite.

Creamy Chantelle mushroom soup - Despite the word cream, it's actually perfectly done, not too creamy and won't fill you up but creamy enough and the mushroom taste was good. 👍🏻 Everyone was raving about the Weiner Schnitzel but I wanted to try something different so I ordered the Syrian fried chicken. I suspected it used the same batter which was pretty good. The best part is fried chicken can be easily overcooked and became dry, I think they used dark meat because it's very moist. It's very good. Beef Gulash - was not as enjoyable. I didn't like the meat they used. I think they might have used chuck and I think it's better with brisket. Flavor was a little strong. Just personally, nor for me. This is a restaurant seems like locals like to come. I would come back if I have time for the Schnitzel.

A fabulous surprise. I wanted local and cosy. I wanted a great schnitzel. I got both. On top the best strudel with a surprise topping of seasonal fruit (strawberry and rhubarb). I highly recommend. Not touristy at all. Very kind and friendly staff.

We went at 9.00 p.m. without a reservation but were quickly accommodated and had a very tasty dinner. The staff was friendly and efficient. The calf’s liver and the beef tartar were excellent. The tiramisu was huge and delicious. I had a look at the kitchen and it was spotlessly clean. Highly recommend!

Delicious tradicional cuisine. When I say even the fresh lettuce was delicious I'm not exaggerating. We ordered the popular fried chicken, the ravioli, burrata cheese with beets, the famous fried veil, and some others dishes and absolutely everything was delicious. Im removing one star only because it was very loud, with some construction happening in the back which disrupted the lives. Other than that, 100% recommended.
